Universal Standard had a pop-up event in Portland, OR on September 16. I stopped by to check out the designs that are all created to flatter the curvy figure. I was excited about this brand when I heard about it earlier this year on the Today show. Honestly, I was absolutely stunned when I tried on some of the pieces. These are all investment type pieces - they are not cheap. But almost every single piece of clothing I tried on was ULTRA comfortable. The green sweater dress? It feels like you are wearing PJs, but you look pulled together and ready for a professional event or night on the town. The black dress is on my wish list. It's $160, but literally the perfect little black dress. Small details like slightly curved seams are all designed to flatter your figure and you feel completely comfortable while looking stylish too. I only tried on the jeans because I needed something to wear with some tops that I picked out and I was absolutely blown away by the fit. They are the MOST FLATTERING jeans I have ever worn. They hit just right at your waist pulling in your stomach and actually lengthen your legs. The indigo is super dark blue. I ordered the indigo jeans and the distressed black, which looks like a grey. The jeans were $90 each and high quality. I also love the cutaway tee (cream). I was going to order it in black, but it's currently backordered. They are also doing a model contest at their pop-up events, which I, of course, entered. It's been a long time since I've been this excited about a new clothing line! I definitely plan to add some other pieces from Universal Standard to my wardrobe.

Sizing information: The sizing is different than other clothing. I wear a size 18 normally. I wore a size 16 Long for the jeans as they run big. For all the other items, I wore a Medium in Universal Standard sizing.

A gift guide for the makeup minimalist

November 27, 2016 Melissa Chee

The makeup minimalist

She's a natural beauty that can't be bothered with a bunch of products. She's a girl that looks naturally beautiful and fresh faced. You probably think she never wears makeup. Maybe you'll never know. The gifts in this guide are picked especially for her.

FRESH ® BARE NECESSITIES LIP SET (LIMITED EDITION) $58

This collection of full-size Sugar Lip Treatments offer sheer, buildable color and come presented in a beautiful gift box. The set includes a Sugar Lip Treatment Sunscreen SPF 15 which is a nourishing blend that smoothes and protects your lips, a Sugar Rosé Tinted Lip Treatment that gives your lips a sheer rosy tint and Sugar Honey Tinted Lip Treatment Sunscreen that gives your lips a warm nude tint. Sugar lip treatments are amazing! It's more like a spa treatment than a chapstick. They impart a lovely color that's just enough... perfect for everyday.

KAT VON D INK LINER

This liner is perfect for the makeup minimalist because you can create a super thin line. It's my favorite because it doesn't transfer (Can I get a hallelujah?). This liner will give you the look of a liquid liner, but it's so easy in a felt tip pen. Ink liner comes in 10 different colors, but I'd recommend Trooper (black). Everyone needs a good black liner even the makeup minimalist. Plus, this product is even vegan.

CLINIQUE 'HIGH IMPACT' EXTREME VOLUME MASCARA

A little mascara is an easy way to emphasize your eyes while looking completely natural. Wear this mascara alone for an ultra natural look. This mascara gives your lashes volume and length. It's one of my favorites because Clinique is great for sensitive eyes. Clinique's high impact mascara is great for super black lashes, but it comes off a lot easier than other mascaras which helps your lashes stay strong and healthy.

ANASTASIA BEVERLY HILLS BROW WIZ PENCIL

This is an ultra-slim, retractable pencil that creating hair-like strokes. It's one the of the best products to create a natural brow, which is so essential. The makeup minimalist can just do her brows and be ready to go. The brow wiz is one of my favorites because you have so much control. The pencil is so thin that you can fill exactly where you want. I usually wear the color ebony or sometime dark brown, but Anastasia has a variety of colors. You can definitely find one for you or your secret santa.

BENEFIT COSMETICS "WATT'S UP!" CREAM-TO-POWDER HIGHLIGHTER

This champagne cream-to-powder highlighter is gorgeous and so easy to use. It is Benefit’s bestselling highlighter. You apply it to top of your cheeks and brow bones... anywhere the light reflects and then blend with your fingers or the included sponge. The twist up product is simple and the packaging reminds me of a giant diamond. This highlighter would be fun even for someone that doesn't wear a lot of makeup, just a little extra glow for the holidays!

Five Joys

July 11, 2016 Melissa Chee

Happiness is there for the taking--and making.

--Oprah

These Five Joys blog posts are my favorite. It's so simple and yet, it forces me to look back at all the awesome things that have happened lately. Even when I think, hmm... what can I include... once, I start looking there are so many options. So many little joyful moments. I mean just look at that Voodoo donut below. Have you ever seen a better Voodoo doll donut? He has the best face! But seriously, it's very natural for me to focus on work stress, but it takes actual effort to focus on the positive and things to be grateful for. This includes my new bed that will be delivered in a couple weeks, my upcoming Greece trip and going bowling with old friends recently. And here are some more...
