Polka dots and anchors

It's that time of year, at least here in the Pacific Northwest, where it's getting warm enough to wear capris. Well, technically I think these are crops, but if you wear them rolled up they are more the length of long capris. I will mostly be wearing them rolled up. My favorite feature of the Torrid denim crops are the little polka dots. Who doesn't like polka dots? I'm sure there is someone, but it's not me. I have always loved polka dots. Don't they kind of remind you of Minnie Mouse? Which leads me to my next question of who doesn't like Disney? Sorry, I'm having Disney withdrawals because it's been too long since my last visit to the Magic Kingdom. But back to the clothing, the Charter Club top is from Macy's. It's not my favorite, but it was $4 on the clearance rack. And I do really like how it looks with my new polka dot crops; plus, the anchors are really cute. I'm a huge fan of Torrid because their pants fit me really well and I find that pants are one of the hardest clothing items to fit so once you find a brand that works, it's such a relief. These pants have a lot of stretch too--which helps you get a great fit. The crops retail for $54.50 and are currently out of stock, but Torrid frequently restocks popular items. Or maybe you prefer no polka dots? Crops are a great item to get you between pants and shorts season or when shorts are not appropriate.

Ariel, sea green and vintage inspired outfit

You're never too old for The Little Mermaid. This Ariel themed look proves it. Torrid is a great place to shop for Disney clothing because they often have collaborations featuring various Disney characters and Ariel has to be one of the most popular. This dress is particularly flattering because of it's vintage cut. It even has a little tulle peeking out from the bottom of the skirt. This layer also adds some fullness to the skirt. The sweetheart neckline is pretty and feminine. The halter top is also cute, but it's not my favorite style simply because I always feel like the ties are pulling on my neck. The black Ariel cardigan would be superb with or without the dress, but it's pretty awesome to have a matching one. Wouldn't this be a fun outfit to wear to Disneyland? Let's go!

I'm pretty obsessed with this makeup look. I used Urban Decay's Vice 4 palette because it had a green shadow that went with the dress and earrings. The purple looking color in the crease is actually a bright pink in the palette "1985," but it looks more purple on me. The super powered lashes are Ardell's Double Up lashes #201. The earrings are perfect for this look because the design looks just like a mermaid's tale!

I think this is the last Barbie clothing item in my wardrobe that has not been featured yet on my blog! Quite the accomplishment and on a Monday to boot. And I might have even saved the best for last. This Barbie top is from Torrid's Barbie collection. The top is made from a thin gauzy material with a flattering black knit band at the bottom. It is so comfortable and cute. The fabric is different than anything else in my closet. It's very lightweight and no static cling! What more could a girl want? I'm wearing denim crops, but you can't tell because of the tall boots. The boots were a gift from my cousin Deanna. They are also ridiculously cute and comfy, apparently another theme for this outfit. For makeup, I'm using Urban Decay's Naked3 palette and Marc Jacobs Kiss Kiss Bang Bang lipstick. Watch for a tutorial video coming soon! What is your favorite look for a rainy day?

Barbie has certainly been in the news recently with Mattel rolling out three new body types for Barbie. I was pretty excited and very surprised to see a new curvy Barbie doll body type. I think it's awesome that Mattel is making dolls that look like more like real people. I'm thinking back about all the different dolls I've had in my life - Barbie, American Girl and plenty of baby dolls and I've never really had a doll that looked like me, definitely never a curvy doll. I read a lot of comments online from people who were upset that Mattel was changing Barbie's body type, but let's not forget Barbie's body has already changed many times. In recent years, Barbie's body was made more "realistic." Which as a sometimes collector, I actually didn't really like. But I think curvy Barbie doll is revolutionary and I love it. Also, there are still beautiful dolls available for Barbie collectors with different body types online. If money were no object, I would have every single doll in the Fashion Model Collection.

Now let's get to the outfit. This outfit relies on pieces from Torrid's Barbie collection. I bought several pieces from the collection straight away including this Barbie cardigan because I was concerned they would sell out quickly. The cardigan is versatile because a black cardigan goes with practically anything, at least in my wardrobe. But the dress was actually the real gem. I got it on clearance online and I had an extra coupon, I think it was only $12. I was blown away by the fit and quality of this dress. It fits like a dream and it's super flattering. Personally, I just thought it looked okay online, but in-person it's amazing. This is why I prefer to be able to try things on in-person at a store. Yes, it's great to shop online if you can't find what you're looking for anywhere else, but it's even better to be able to try things on in-person. You never really know for sure until you try something on how it's going to look on you. Something not so great on a hanger could look fabulous on you!

What do you think about the new Barbie body types tall, petite and curvy?

Also, I have a video on the makeup look in the photos above. Please check it out. I'll have more makeup videos coming soon too. I used Andrea lashes #23. They are super long, yet lightweight lashes - very versatile.

This adorable Barbie sweater from Torrid is a great addition for a fall wardrobe. It's too cute with its peter pan collar and Barbie's sequin ponytail holder. There are also super cute black buttons up the back of the sweater. The sweater is pretty lightweight and very comfortable. It's a very pale cream color with black details. It also runs a little large and ideally, I would have sized down. But overall, if you are a Barbie lover--this is a good plus size sweater to check out. It's only available online at Torrid. The black pleated skirt is also from Torrid and super amazing--very flattering and comfy and black goes with almost everything. The lipstick is from Clinique in the color Matte Crimson. I love the bright matte color. For makeup details, check out my instagram @melissamchee. Photos by Warren who blogs over at Blog To Taste.
